Interview with Dorothy Hoffman, April 27, 2005, Jefferson, Wisconsin

Partial Transcript: Dorothy's parents owned a farm in Bakertown near the school. Her parents moved into the farmhouse in 1922. Dorothy and her first husband took over the farm and remained there until the 1970s.

Partial Transcript: Dorothy was born in 1924, after her parent had been living on the farm for two years. The farm functioned as the Jewish place of worship before Dorothy's parents moved their in 1922. The Jewish church was an old log barn, which was later turned into a storage shed by Dorothy's parents.

Partial Transcript: Andy Muchin looks at a photograph of the old Jewish Church from 1944 and describes the building.

Partial Transcript: Dorothy and Andy discuss how the previous owner of the farm, Mr. Kramer, moved the building across a road to his farmland.

Partial Transcript: There were not any other Jews living in Bakertown when Dorothy lived in the area. Most of the people in the area were Baptist. The town was named after a Jewish family who originally settled in the area.

Partial Transcript: There are some records of the students who attended Bakertown school. There are photographs of the students, some of which have the student's name on the back. Dorothy and Andy look through photographs from when she attended the school.

Partial Transcript: The Baker's established a synagogue, store, Yeshiva school, and broom factory in the small town.

Partial Transcript: Dorothy discusses some of the details of the old synagogue. There were six beige medallions painted on the inside walls of the building.
